Deputies say Lane Tripp’s blood-alcohol level was more than
three times the legal limit when she was pulled over — just before her afternoon shift as a school bus driver!
School bus driver arrested for DUI on the way to work
Lee County, Florida – A Lee County school bus driver was arrested Friday after deputies say she drove drunk to work, where she was to get behind the wheel of a bus.
Lane Tripp, 46, of Lehigh Acres, is charged with driving under the influence.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, an off-duty deputy saw Tripp weaving on the road in her personal vehicle Friday afternoon.
The deputy contacted uniformed deputies and followed Tripp to the Lee County bus barn on North Leonard Avenue in Lehigh Acres, where she was reporting for work.
When deputies arrived, they found Tripp sitting against a light pole by herself, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said Tripp had bloodshot eyes and smelled of alcohol.
While performing a field sobriety exercise, Tripp stumbled and was unable to maintain her balance, deputies said.
Breath tests revealed blood alcohol levels of .252 and .245, more than three times the legal limit of .08.
Tripp was cited for careless driving in 2008, to which she pleaded no contest. A judge withheld adjudication.
Tripp has been charged with DUI.
